So, my question is this: is the GBA version really all that bad? If so, what exactly is wrong with it? And more importantly, isn't Zelos the most obnixous pretty boy to ever exist? :arch: The purist in me wants to go with the original SNES version that started it all, but again, the fan translation aspect is a bit of a turn off. I'm also not really in the mood to play the PS1 version because I don't understand a lick of Japanese, and playing Tales of Rebirth and Tales of the Abyss with printed out translation guides wasn't all that fun. I'm kind of hesitant about playing the SNES version as well, because I'm not entirely sure I want my first impressions of the game to be affected by a fan translation that I've heard tends to be a little "exaggerated" and inaccurate in places. But if it's not as good as the other versions, I'm not sure I want to play it first. That, and I can play it on my TV with the Game Boy Player and understand it. I guess what is so appealing about it to me is that it apparently combines aspects of the original SNES version and the PS1 remake, plus the fact that it's an official translation with English voice. I haven't really heard any specifics as to why it isn't, but if that's really the case, I'm a bit confused about which version I should play first. According to Wikipedia and some posts I've seen on the official Namco Tales forum, this version isn't all that good. Today I purchased the GBA version and did some reading.
I played through a bit of the DeJap ROM back when it was first translated, and imported the PS1 remake for completeness' sake, but still haven't gotten very far. In fact, aside from Tales of Destiny 2 (the JP ToD2, not US Eternia), it's the only one of the series I haven't completed. Namco's "Tales" series is my third favourite RPG series, yet I'm ashamed to admit I've never played the first title in its entirety.
